Extension, Kitchen
With a revised plan in place, we constructed a single-storey extension that would maximise the available space without compromising the architectural integrity of the home. Stonework was carefully chosen to match the existing exterior, preserving the charm of the period property while integrating modern insulation and efficient construction methods. A new atrium-style roof light was incorporated into the flat roof design, allowing natural light to flood into the new kitchen extension.
Inside, we carefully reconfigured the layout to optimise storage and functionality including plenty of hidden solutions within the cabinets such as corner Lemans units, pull out larders and deep drawers.
A Kitchen That Blends Timeless Elegance with Modern Trends
The homeowners chose a beautiful sage green and pink colour scheme—an effortlessly stylish combination that merges two of the most popular kitchen trends of recent years. The kitchen furniture, from the Masterclass Bloomsbury range, featured olive cabinetry with Portland Oak interiors, while the utility space was given a softer contrast with a pink ‘Autumn Blush’ finish. The cabinetry was paired with brushed brass handles, adding a refined touch that complements both the period charm of the home and the modern finishes of the kitchen.
The heart of the kitchen was designed with both aesthetics and practicality in mind. The central worktop, a stunning 20mm quartz in Torrone, provided a durable yet elegant surface, complete with matching upstands and windowsills for a cohesive look. A farmhouse-style double sink from Blanco, paired with a satin gold mixer tap was an essential addition for Mrs Gooderson and introduced a touch of heritage style while ensuring everyday usability.
Storage was a key priority for the clients, and the kitchen was designed to maximise every inch of space. Thoughtfully placed larder units, internal pull-out corner storage, and integrated bins kept everything neatly organised without compromising on design. In the utility room, a dedicated tall larder houses the ironing board and cleaning supplies, while bespoke housings for the washing machine and tumble dryer ensured a clutter-free space.
The homeowners wanted their kitchen to feel warm and inviting, which led to the inclusion of a sophisticated lighting plan. Sixteen recessed LED downlights in brass provided ample general lighting, while under-cabinet lighting creates a soft glow in the evenings. Elegant pendant drops over the dining area added an extra layer of ambiance, allowing the homeowners to create the perfect mood for any occasion.
To enhance comfort and practicality, underfloor heating was installed beneath the new Amtico Spacia flooring, ensuring warmth underfoot even during the colder months. The Metropolis Ice finish flooring, laid in a classic brick bond pattern, adds texture and depth to the space while maintaining an understated elegance.
Although the original plan for a large extension had to be reimagined, the end result proved that smart design and thoughtful planning can create just as much impact. The combination of a well-structured layout, timeless colour choices, and high-quality materials has given the homeowners a kitchen that is both beautiful and functional.
This transformation not only met their need for extra storage and a larger cooking space but also seamlessly integrated into the period charm of their home—proving that even within constraints, exceptional design can bring a vision to life.
