Extension, Kitchen, Utility
Mr & Mrs Thomson returned to us 14 years after the completion of their original single storey extension with Adamsons, ready to transform their kitchen space into an open plan, bright space. Initially designed with a small sunroom and small utility room, the layout no longer worked for their needs and in keeping with modern trends, they wanted to embrace open plan living to the fullest. Through alterations and a brand new kitchen, Mr and Mrs Thomson now have a stunning kitchen, dining and living space they absolutely love.
The existing extension had a small sunroom which had become un-used and unloved, to better suit the needs of the Thomson family, our designer proposed that the floorplan was altered to create an free-flowing space. To do so, we demolished the existing sun room and moved the door to the utility room to create clear walls to create a clear canvas for a kitchen that ran down the centre of the space. New, large picture windows were installed to draw in natural light and frame their beautiful garden view.
The modern kitchen features Masterclass Kitchen’s Padstow range in light grey, paired with a Portland Oak carcass for warmth. The central island, finished in Moonlight Blue, adds a striking contrast and grounds the space while durable 30mm Quartz Mono Collection worktops make the units feel uniform. The addition of an oak breakfast bar to the end of the island creates an alternative seating area, perfect for quick meals and even working at with a laptop.
Storage was key throughout the kitchen, with a mix of larder units, deep drawers, and bespoke pantry shelving ensuring a clutter-free space. Stainless steel T-bar handles add subtle details while integrated appliances ensure the kitchen feels sleek and modern.
State-of-the-Art Appliances
Premium Neff appliances were installed throughout, including:
Utility Room & Finishing Touches
With the improved floor plan, the adjacent utility room is easily hidden in the dining nook, keeping it out of sight but perfectly practical. With cabinetry and countertops to complement the kitchen, a seamless flow is created. Additionally a small pantry unit offers essential storage for larger countertop appliances such as slow cookers and coffee machines that aren’t in use on a daily basis.
Throughout both the kitchen and utility, we installed Amtico Spacia Muted Oak flooring in a herringbone pattern which adds subtle warmth to the cool toned furniture. Lighting included 15 LED recessed downlights, under-cabinet Sensio Astro lighting, and LED strip lights on the island plinth for a soft evening glow. A stunning pendant light fitting above the dining table effectively zones the spaces while still ensuring that all important open plan feeling.
With the new, large open plan space, heating the space was a key consideration. A modern air conditioning system was introduced to replace the existing radiators, providing energy-efficient climate control.
With careful planning and thoughtful design, Mr. & Mrs. Thomson’s kitchen has been completely reimagined into a stunning, open-plan space that blends functionality with elegance. By removing the underutilised sunroom and optimising the layout, we created a seamless flow between cooking, dining, and relaxation areas.
The combination of bespoke Masterclass cabinetry, premium Neff appliances, and well-considered storage solutions ensures the kitchen is both stylish and practical. Carefully chosen finishes, from warm oak accents to energy-efficient climate control, enhance comfort and usability. Now, the Thomsons have a bright, spacious kitchen that not only meets their needs but will continue to be the heart of their home for years to come.
