An Unused Attic Turned Into A Useful Loft Conversion

When Mr & Mrs Fendall approached us about a loft conversion for their bungalow in Denton, the goal was clear: to unlock hidden space and create a calm, light-filled bedroom without compromising the flow of the existing home.

Working closely with our architectural designer, we explored options that would give the most usable head height and natural light, without overwhelming the property’s proportions. A dormer extension was the perfect solution—opening up the rear of the roof to create a generous new bedroom while remaining sympathetic to the character of the house.

Planning Around the Existing Layout

To avoid disrupting the existing footprint too much, the new staircase was designed with a turn, fitting neatly into the ground floor layout. We also introduced a small mezzanine-style landing at the top of the stairs, complete with a skylight above. This not only helps distribute daylight throughout the loft but also prevents the space from feeling enclosed or boxed in.

Every structural and design decision was made with practicality and flow in mind.

A Bedroom That Feels Like a Retreat

Upstairs, the new bedroom combines functionality with comfort. Bespoke wardrobes were custom-built into the layout to provide valuable storage without crowding the room. One standout feature is the pop-up television, integrated at the foot of the bed a sleek, space-saving solution that adds a touch of luxury.

Natural light pours in from both the dormer and skylight, creating an uplifting, tranquil space that feels far removed from the rest of the home ideal for switching off at the end of the day.
