Mr Niven had been envisioning a modern update to his home for years. When the time finally came, he turned to Adamsons Construction to help bring his dream to life. The result: a complete kitchen renovation and a single-storey extension that has transformed his home into a space that is both functional and deeply personal.
Located in Davenport, Stockport, Mr Niven’s home is now revitalised, with a bespoke kitchen design and a garage that subtly honours his family heritage — particularly his father, Mr. Ian Niven MBE, a lifelong Manchester City supporter.
A Tribute to Heritage
The garage extension was designed with Ian’s passion for football in mind, incorporating subtle nods to Manchester City Football Club as a tribute to his father, who had a long-standing connection to the club. While ensuring the garage met Ian’s practical needs — such as securely housing his vehicle — it also serves as a personal space that reflects his love for both family and football.
The Vision
Ian’s goals for the project were clear from the start. He wanted a modern, functional kitchen to replace the outdated one and a spacious, secure garage. Adamsons Construction worked closely with Ian to craft a bespoke solution, refining his initial idea of a large kitchen extension into a more efficient design within the existing layout.
The Kitchen
The kitchen was transformed using high-quality materials and premium appliances. Beckermann’s Silvia Beton cabinetry, featuring dark concrete base units paired with alpine concrete wall units, provided a striking industrial feel. These were beautifully complemented by Silestone countertops in Nolita Suede, supplied by Consentio. Neff appliances, including a gas hob, extractor, oven, compact microwave oven, and fridge freezer, completed the space, adding a contemporary edge that’s both stylish and functional.
The Extension
The new single-storey extension offers a spacious garage with a practical attached utility room that connects directly to the kitchen. This seamless flow of space has significantly enhanced the functionality of Ian’s home, streamlining his daily routine.
The Result
Completed in just two months, the transformation was both stylish and deeply personal. Mr Niven’s new kitchen offers a modern, premium space, while the garage — with its subtle homage to Manchester City — is a meaningful tribute to his family’s legacy.
Ian reflected on the project, saying,
In a way I enjoyed the whole experience of the project. I liked to think I got involved and also learned a lot. I made over fifty friends and at times I felt I was one of your team!
A special mention must go to Lee, Paul the Plasterer, Nick, Joe the Electrician, Connor and Paul the Roofer. Also, Steve, Joseph and the wonderful Millie, who was the main reason I started this project in the first place.
Company director Rachel added:
This project was a perfect example of how close collaboration with our clients leads to exceptional results. Ian’s passion and involvement throughout allowed us to create a space that truly reflects his personality and story.
