The homeowners were keen to update their existing kitchen with something that felt modern, calm, and easy to live with. While the room was relatively small, they wanted it to feel light, uncluttered, and practical for everyday use, without the disruption and uncertainty that often comes with a renovation.
Rethinking the layout to make better use of space
One of the key changes we made early in the design process was removing an existing window. While this might sound counterintuitive at first, it allowed us to rework the layout more effectively and introduce an integrated fridge freezer into the run of tall units, significantly improving storage and flow within the galley kitchen.
To balance this change, a new back door was installed at the far end of the room. During the post-completion visit, Mr Somers commented on how much natural light now pours into the space, instantly making the kitchen feel brighter and more open. This single design decision transformed the atmosphere of the room and helped the kitchen feel far larger than its dimensions suggest.
A sage green kitchen that feels fresh but timeless
The finished kitchen features a handleless Masterclass H Line Sutton range in Sutton Silk Willow, a soft sage green tone that continues to be one of the most popular kitchen colours we install. In this space, it works beautifully, adding warmth and character without overpowering the room.
The handleless design keeps the lines clean and uninterrupted, which is especially important in a galley kitchen. Combined with matching willow interiors and plinths, the cabinetry feels cohesive and calm, helping the room read as one continuous, well-considered space.
Paired with Milano Carrara Marble laminate worktops and subtle glass splashbacks in Telegrey, the overall look is modern and understated. The kitchen feels fresh and contemporary, but still like a space that will age well over time.
Flooring, lighting and practical details that elevate the space
Underfoot, Amtico Spacia flooring in Villa Concrete was chosen for both its durability and its clean, modern appearance. Laid in a brick-bonded pattern, it adds just enough visual interest while keeping the space grounded and practical for daily use.
Lighting was designed to support how the kitchen is actually used, with a combination of recessed LED downlights and under-cabinet lighting ensuring the room feels welcoming at all times of day. These details might be subtle, but together they make the kitchen feel comfortable, easy to navigate, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time in.
A calm renovation from start to finish
Throughout the project, the focus was on making the experience as straightforward as possible for the homeowners. Protective measures were put in place across the home, the works were carefully coordinated, and a temporary kitchen was provided so Mr & Mrs Somers could continue with day-to-day life while the renovation was underway.
As with every Adamsons kitchen, the project was delivered on a fixed price agreed from the outset, removing any uncertainty along the way. And once the kitchen was complete, ongoing aftercare is available as standard, offering reassurance long after the final handover.
