Open Plan Modern Kitchen Renovation: Balancing Practical Needs with Striking Design

The kitchen renovation for Mr & Mrs Thomson focused on creating a modern and functional space that suited their open-plan vision while maintaining a stylish and practical feel. The brief was to transform the kitchen, making it a central hub for both cooking and family life.

Bespoke Kitchen Design

We designed a striking kitchen renovation with Masterclass Kitchen’s Padstow range in light grey, paired with Portland Oak carcasses to add warmth. The central island, finished in Moonlight Blue, offers a beautiful contrast while grounding the space. Durable 30mm Quartz Mono Collection worktops add uniformity, while an oak breakfast bar at the end of the island provides an alternative seating area, perfect for quick meals or working with a laptop.

Storage was key, and we integrated a mix of larder units, deep drawers, and bespoke pantry shelving to ensure a clutter-free kitchen. Stainless steel T-bar handles add subtle detailing, and integrated appliances contribute to the sleek, modern feel of the kitchen.

State-of-the-Art Appliances

We installed premium Neff appliances, including:

A flex induction hob with downdraft extraction, ducted under the extension floor.
A single oven, combination microwave, and warming drawer with a sleek metallic trim.
An integrated fridge freezer and dishwasher for a streamlined look.
A Blanco stainless steel sink with a Quooker Fusion Round Flex tap for instant boiling and filtered water.

Utility Room Design

With the improved floorplan, we tucked the adjacent utility room into the dining nook, ensuring it was out of sight but easily accessible. The cabinetry and countertops were designed to complement the kitchen, creating a seamless flow. A small pantry unit provides essential storage for larger countertop appliances like slow cookers and coffee machines, helping maintain a clutter-free space.

Finishing Touches & Flooring

Both the kitchen and utility room featured Amtico Spacia Muted Oak flooring in a herringbone pattern, adding warmth to the cool-toned cabinetry. Lighting was carefully chosen to create the perfect ambiance, with 15 LED recessed downlights, under-cabinet Sensio Astro lighting, and LED strip lights on the island plinth. A stunning pendant light fixture above the dining table effectively zones the spaces, ensuring the open-plan feel is maintained.

By combining bespoke cabinetry, premium appliances, and practical storage solutions, we created a kitchen that is not only beautiful but also perfectly suited to the family’s needs.
