Having moved into the home recently, they quickly felt that the existing kitchen was dark and closed in, with very little natural light reaching the space. It didn’t feel like somewhere they wanted to spend time, and it certainly didn’t reflect how they wanted to use their home for their retirement.
Their goal was to completely rethink the layout, create a brighter kitchen that felt connected to the rest of the house and garden, and introduce a practical utility room that would take the pressure off the main kitchen. Just as importantly, they wanted the reassurance that the whole renovation would be handled from start to finish by one experienced team so returned to Adamsons having worked with us previously on their last home.
Bringing Light and Space Back into the Room
One of the biggest changes came from reworking the layout and introducing new glass doors to the rear of the house. These replaced existing windows and allowed far more natural light to reach the kitchen. The difference was immediate. What had once been a darker corner of the house now feels open and bright, with a clear connection to the garden outside. This simple shift in the layout completely changed how the room feels and how it is used day to day.
A Kitchen Designed to Feel Calm and Organised
Mr and Mrs Lloyd chose the Masterclass Sutton Silk range in Highland Stone kitchen, a soft neutral colour that brings warmth and a contemporary feel to the space. In a soft grey, it keeps the newly brightened space feeling light and airy. Tall storage units and wide drawer bases provide generous storage while maintaining clean, uncluttered lines throughout the room. Integrated appliances from Neff help the kitchen feel streamlined, while quartz worktops in beautiful Amazonia add a durable, high-quality finish.
The working area centres around a Blanco Etagon undermount sink paired with a stainless steel filter tap; practical, understated details that suit the overall design perfectly.
A Utility Room Designed for Everyday Life
Alongside the kitchen, a new utility room was created to handle laundry, storage and the practical tasks that don’t always belong in the main kitchen. For Mr & Mrs Lloyd, the space had a very specific purpose. With an active dog who enjoys muddy countryside walks, they wanted somewhere to clean up easily before coming back into the house.
A large farmhouse-style sink with a handheld spray tap now makes it simple to rinse muddy paws and outdoor gear. It’s a small but thoughtful feature that reflects how the homeowners really live. Just as importantly, having a separate utility room keeps the kitchen calm and clutter-free.
A Carefully Managed Renovation
Because they had worked with Adamsons before, the homeowners already knew what to expect from the process. From removing the original kitchen through to installing the final fittings, every stage of the renovation was coordinated by one team. Trades were scheduled carefully, communication remained clear throughout, and the project progressed smoothly from start to finish.
That continuity and reliability were exactly what the homeowners were looking for when they chose to work with us again.
A Kitchen Ready for the Years Ahead
The finished kitchen now feels bright, organised and welcoming, a space that works naturally with the rest of the home. What was once a dark, closed-off room has been transformed into a light-filled kitchen with practical storage, durable materials and a thoughtfully designed utility room. Most importantly, it’s a space designed to support the homeowners’ next chapter, comfortable, practical and built to last.
