A Bright and Social Open Plan Extension
Mr & Mrs Cunnington wanted to enhance their home with a more generous, connected living space. Following the much loved trend of open plan living, they wanted a place where they could cook, eat, and spend time together without feeling confined. To achieve this, we extended the property out to the rear, reconfiguring the layout to create a large, open-plan room that blends seamlessly into the garden beyond.
A key feature of this extension is the large ceiling lantern placed above the kitchen island. Not only does it invite natural light deep into the room, but it also gives the whole space a sense of vertical openness and airiness. French doors frame views of the garden and make the transition from indoors to outdoors feel effortless, especially in summer.
The new space now accommodates a defined kitchen zone, a central dining area, and a relaxed seating area. By using a combination of structural layout and carefully considered lighting, the homeowners have cleverly zoned the room without the need for walls, maintaining flow and flexibility throughout.
